Jeffrey K. Cody
Jeffrey “Jeff” K. Cody is a partner and joined the firm in 2006. Prior to that, Jeff worked as a law clerk to Commissioner John M. Smart, Jr., of the 19th Judicial District Court. He has prosecuted and defended lawsuits for various public entities, car dealerships, insurers, and individuals. His employment law practice has involved primarily litigation in the areas of pregnancy, race, and age discrimination. Much of Jeff’s litigation work in recent years has been devoted to defending civil rights actions brought against state officials and agencies in federal court, particularly in the area of prisoner litigation and including class actions. He is also experienced in appellate procedure and writ practice.
In addition to litigation work, Jeff has advised his public clients on a host of legal topics, policies and procedures, and responses to public records requests. He has also assisted them with rulemaking and drafting of proposed legislation. Jeff has worked as a prosecutor in an administrative setting for state licensing boards, such as the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, the Louisiana Manufactured Housing Commission, and the Louisiana State Board of Private Investigation Examiners.
In 2012, Jeff expanded his practice to include commercial real estate and has since performed title work and has closed real estate transactions for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries, the Office of Facility Planning, the Louisiana Land Trust, and others. He is a licensed title insurance producer as well.
